Halloween a time of year to be particularly creative. I see pumpkin carving as a type of sculpture – you are sculpting into a vegetable. The element on my carving that worked well was the actual carving itself. I attempted layers within the eyes by scraping off the first centimeter of outer skin, allowing a lesser depth for the light to travel through, thus creating a grey scale. If I were to repeat the carving, I would use this technique in more areas, such as around the mouth and nose, to give further depth. I found pumpkin carving a fun exercise and the process extended my sculptural skills in an alternative way.
